saturday 9: rings

Image
Howdy ho, neighbors! I'm still futzing around with my fonts and things here so I can land on one or two that I like, so please bear with me on that. I'm in deep with my Miami Hurricanes this football season, and they're playing at 3:30 PM (EST). I have just under five hours, so this slow-poke should be good. šŸ˜šŸ˜… Today, Crazy Sam has us covering the song "Rings" by the band Cymarron. If you haven't heard of it and want to listen to it (as I am now) and/or join in the fun, head over here to do just that! Special note to Country Dew: thanks for your genius note about the text-only paste! Woohoo! Also, Chloe appreciated your Stevie Nicks compliment! Jumping in myself just now: *********************************** Saturday 9: Rings (1971) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here . *  1) This song is about a young man who is happy to hear his phone ring. How about you? How do you feel when your phone rings? (Excited, annoyed, surprised, etc.)  Somewhere ...

saturday 9: angie baby

Image
Hello, friends. I woke up late after building up a massive sleep debt this past week, and now I'm watching the University of Miami game (my alma mater) against SMU, which we're currently winning. It's still pretty early yet, though. (P.S. Nope, we went to overtime and did not  win. Sigh.) This week's song is calle "Angie's Baby," which I haven't heard before. Yet. Link up here if you're going to join up, right along with me. And then also join me in visiting some of the other players, because I am going to do that! [But wait -- those of you who use Blogger (since I'm new to the platform), do you know how I can get rid of the pink background from Crazy Sam's site when I copy/paste the questions? Just changing the background question does not work.] ~*~*~*~*~ Saturday 9: Angie Baby (1974) Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it   here .   1) This week's song is a spooky one about a young man who breaks into the bedroom of...

saturday 9: do you know the way to san jose?

Hello, friends and acquaintances from near and far! It's already afternoon on Saturday, but because my Miami Hurricanes usually play on Fridays but are playing today, I forgot it even was  Saturday. I am sorry to be gracing you so lately with my presence. As I do every! other! week! in which I participate!! No news is good news, right? Today Crazy Sam pulled a shocker on me and taught me that, at this many years old (49), this song is sung by none other than Dionne Warwick!! You see, these three limited pieces of information are essentially what I knew about Ms. Warwick as an 80s kid. (I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot and prematurely answering some of Sam's questions, since I never read them until right before I'm about to answer them, but we'll jump off that bridge when we come to it.): 1. Whitney Houston's talented aunt 2. "That's What Friends Are For" 3. Psychic Network All this to say, I did not know what else  was in Dionne's d...

saturday 9: mambo no. 5

Image
Hey, guys, how are we doing today? It's 9:21 AM here, for me, so I'll be lucky to stop the clock by noon. And Hubs is down there cooking me an omelet right now... I LOVED this song when it came out! I was in graduate school, working on the doctorate I skipped out on, but that time was an enormously emotional, anguished, fraught time. Music, including Lou Bega's, helped.  It's still a bop, and I still love it. So what about you? Joining us this weekend? Make sure you pop on over here and link up! Let's go: ~*~*~*~*~ Saturday 9: Mambo No. 5 (1999) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it  here .   1) Lou Bega namechecks a lot of women in this song. Is there an Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Mary, or Jessica in your life? I am friends with women with a lot of those names. Maybe I should write a song!   2) Can you think of a song that includes your first name? I've known about this Weird Al song, "Melanie," since forever. Alway...

saturday 9: that's so true

s * a * t * u * r * d * a * y   * 9 * Hello, and welcome! I'm staying up pretty late into the night to get this post written (it's 4:27 AM EDT). I may be the worst blahgger in the world, continuity-wise and so forth, I don't know, but I would like to keep up with it as much as the cards I've been dealt will allow me. And I appreciate all my visitors! (And commenters) Today we're going to talking about relative newcomer Gracie Abrams, who is pretty cool, and her son g, "That's S o True." I queued up this song of hers, and then another, and then another - she's got a fairly arresting indie-folk-kinda vibe that I really like, so I subscribed. Plus she has exact birthday as my eldest, ChloĆ«, just two years older (if that boosts your likeworthiness). Anyhoo, if you're joining us this weekend, maybe you should add yourself to  this post here , so we can all see! Jumping in: ~*~*~*~*~ Unfamiliar with this week's tune?   1) In this song, Gracie Abr...
