Saturday 9: Farewell, Amanda

Image
(Harry Prime, young and old) Hello, kids of all ages! Glad to have you stop by. I have finished my two-week course of antibiotics, and would you believe it? I actually feel so much better now for the first time since near the end of December! It took right up until the end of that fortnight, but that's okay, because I was giving it my full faith and it, its time to work, and it did. I am so damn relieved. Can I get a woot, woot!? [TWO MONTHS of this pneumonia that caused a wicked harsh bronchiectasis exacerbation. No, thank you!] I know, I'm strange. I'm aware. Today we're doing the song "Farewell, Amanda," over on ye olde Saturday 9. If you're joining us late, like I am, or even tomorrow, be sure and link up here . Now let's get down to business: ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>< Saturday 9: Farewell, Amanda (1949) Unfamili...

Saturday 9: With or Without You

Image
Hi, friends! This is one of those iconic songs from U2 that needs no blah-blah-blahging introduction from me this week, so I think I'm just going to jump right into it. To see other folks' entries or to submit your own, check out this link . Saturday 9: With or Without You (1987)   Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.   1) "With or Without You" is about the pain of love. What song reminds you of an old romance? Is it about the joy of love or the pain? This is "When I See You Smile" by Bad English, and is mostly about the joy of love for me, in that old romance, but there is a big of pain there, too. It was a good relationship until it ended. 2) U2 lead singer Bono has admitted that, when the group recorded this song in the 1980s, he was wrestling with his real-life commitment issues. He was trying to resolve the responsibilities of being a husband with the demands of his career. He worked it through, and decades later both his marriage and his...

Saturday 9: Won't You Be My Valentine?

Image
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I gave each of the kids a photo gift for the occasion - a set of coasters showing the cutest  picture of her kittens for ChloĆ«, and a framed 8x10 of Nico with his boyfriend for him - but it isn't the biggest lovey-dovey mushy day for Rob and me. That's largely because we celebrate a second wedding anniversary on the 17th, which is, of course right around the corner. So we're doing Valentine's Day here on the circuit, and it promises to be fun. If you'd like to join or just read the other contestants on the Price is Right, be sure to link up here . And away we go: Saturday 9: Won't You Be My Valentine? (1961) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here .   1) Dore Alpert sings that while he considered asking others to be his Valentine, he's sure that this is the girl he wants to love "forever more." What do you think is the secret of a long-lasting romantic relationship? Well for us, it's been a lot ...

Saturday 9: You Make Me Feel So Young

Image
Well, hello there, you! I'm glad you're here. As it's after 6pm EST, I'm probably the very last - or one of the last - stops on the rail this trip along Saturday 9, so I'm very pleased you stopped in. As usual, I'm not sure how we sped from Saturday to another Saturday without my getting a chance to write other content (!!), yet here we are. I'll keep trying, but meantime, Saturday 9 is always (better than) a good day at the rodeo. Today, looks like we're talking about some Sinatra - Daddy this time; we did Nancy awhile back, and I enjoyed that. Wanna play along? You'll find that link here, and then just add your link to the Linky you'll find near the bottom and visit some new friends there! Saturday 9: You Make Me Feel So Young (1956)  Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here . 1) This morning, do you feel younger or older than your years? Neither; I guess I feel about even-Steven. Physically, I feel about a hundred years older, but I...

Saturday 9: Up the Ladder to the Roof

Image
Good afternoon, Saturday friends! It's after 4:30 PM, and I am so tired. I've just woken up from my second nap! Still sick from this Terrible Ick. I hope some or all of you have managed to hold out thus far and stay healthy. At the very least, knowing what's going on with our country within our own borders right now, I wish you well.  It looks like today we'll be talking about this song from none other than the Supremes! I've always loved them, especially of course Diana Ross, but it's her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross I'm obsessed with the most. So we'll see if she comes up on the questionairre. If you're playing, make sure you're linked up here , and now let's all have a go: Saturday 9: Up the Ladder to the Roof (1970) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. 1) Many people are uncomfortable with ladders. Some feel unsteady on the steps, others have a fear of heights. Then there's the superstition that warns against walking un...
