Saturday 9: You Make Me Feel So Young
Well, hello there, you! I'm glad you're here. As it's after 6pm EST, I'm probably the very last - or one of the last - stops on the rail this trip along Saturday 9, so I'm very pleased you stopped in. As usual, I'm not sure how we sped from Saturday to another Saturday without my getting a chance to write other content (!!), yet here we are. I'll keep trying, but meantime, Saturday 9 is always (better than) a good day at the rodeo.
Today, looks like we're talking about some Sinatra - Daddy this time; we did Nancy awhile back, and I enjoyed that. Wanna play along? You'll find that link here, and then just add your link to the Linky you'll find near the bottom and visit some new friends there!
Saturday 9: You Make Me Feel So Young (1956)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This morning, do you feel younger or older than your years?
Neither; I guess I feel about even-Steven. Physically, I feel about a hundred years older, but I feel much younger, mentally.
2) In this song, Frank Sinatra tells us that every time he sees his lover's grin, he's happy. What's something you can reliably count on to lift your spirits?
Bright colors, especially red. Cute shoes, especially for babies. Do you like my red shoes? They're not for babies, but I have tiny feet, so close enough! (I'd still rather have the tiny baby shoes - maybe with a baby in 'em!)
3) The lyrics mention hide-and-seek. What games did you play when you were young?
4) Frank Sinatra was a fan of Campbell's chicken and rice soup, believing it helped his throat feel better after an evening of performing. Is Campbell's soup in your kitchen right now?
We do, even though it's one of the brands I have intent to boycott. I just bought some, because it's still tomato soup and grilled cheese season.
5) Frank's favorite dessert was a slice of lemon ricotta torte. He believed every meal should include "a final flourish." Do you more often indulge in or skip dessert?
If we're out, I'll usually share dessert with Hubs but only eat a bite or two. If I eat more than that, my blood sugar rise and then will drop precipitously, and I will suffer greatly. Can't have that!
6) At Sinatra's home in Palm Springs, CA, you'd find a less sophisticated dessert. He always kept Entenmann's Crumb Cake on hand for his young granddaughters. Share a memory of your grandparents.
Did that already, but continuing on the theme, for a long time G & G would play Skip*Bo every evening at 7:30 pm in the living room, on the card table. That was the same time they'd watch Jeopardy! (and me, too). If Grandpa lost the game, he often pitched a fit about it; he was the sweetest man normally, but he was a sore loser! When they stopped playing, they still watched Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune together, but he was on the couch and Grandma was in on the bed of their small condo. They'd yell out answers to each other. Also Grandpa never cursed; the worst thing I ever heard him say was, "What the Sam Hill?" when he was angry. He also never, ever drank alcohol, while if we (she) were out to dinner, Grandma would be happy to drink a gin & tonic or a can of Bud. Grandpa drank a "Coke on the rocks."
7) In 1956, when this song was popular, Frank was tooling around Southern California in a blue Continental Mark II. That model was known for its interior of hand-stitched imported Scottish leather. 70 years later, Scottish leather is still used in luxury cars because it's both soft and durable and the production methods minimize environmental impact. If you could splurge on something right now, what would it be? A luxury car, jewelry, travel, clothes, something else? (No responsible answers allowed!)
Look, I've lost a bunch of weight (again) and my clothes haven't kept up with the changes. Nor have my wedding and engagement rings, and it's not possible to downsize them again, so I worry I'll lose them. Also, while I'd really love to perpetually cruise around the world with my husband, keeping up with my medical needs makes that not a terribly feasible option. So, with a lovely clothing allowance and a new wedding set, I'd settle for traveling around wherever my new Lamborghini Sian takes the two of us. Good, eh?
8) Also in 1956, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Forbidden Planet were popular at the box office. Do you have a favorite sci-fi movie?
I probably have a few. But I do not like scary/horror movies, and sci-fi really isn't my favorite genre, so I feel like it's safe to say that E.T. is up there.
9) Random question: What were you doing three hours ago?
That was probably around the time we discovered that our pooch here, Tapioca or just "Tapi," who was able to go off her seizure meds of about five years last week sometime, had had another seizure. My heart aches for our poor little girl. So it was between that and the running television with all-you-can-watch Olympics on the tellie.
Well, now I've got to figure out what to have for dinner. I'm suddenly thinking about tomato soup and grilled cheese. What are you having?
xoxo, M

Those shoes made me smile, too. And I hope Tapi feels better (poor girl!).
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed E.T as well. Call Home.
