saturday 9: a little in love

Hey, y'all.

I haven't posted with you guys in a long while; my short and sweet explanation is that there isn't one, really, except for a bundle of new health fears and problems, and I just haven't been up to it. Week after week, I've tried and let myself down. I've missed you. So here I am, hopefully making it through to the end, if you'll have me. (Excuse the dust as I settle into my new bloggy "home.")

So if you're new to Saturday 9, look around and then just jump in here. If memory serves, no one actually bites. Looks like we're doing "A Little in Love" by Cliff Richard this week. While I don't know it, I'm sure it'll be fun. Let's go!

Saturday 9: A Little in Love (1980)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Do you believe you can be a little in love? Or is romance an all-or-nothing proposition for you?

It is most definitely an all-or-nothing proposition for me. I can't fall a little; I just THUD!

2) Cliff Richard sings that he knows it's been a long time since you had fun. Is that true? When have you recently had a really good time? What were you doing?

Well, our eldest, Chloƫ, moved back in and has adopted a pair of kittens, Stella and Astro, who are tons of fun to have around and watch. Never a dull moment and all that...

3) Cliff was born in India when it was still part of the UK. When he was 8, his family relocated to Tilbury, an English port town. Have you ever lived near the sea?

Yes, I do right now and have for many years of my life. I can't bear it when I'm too far from the sea for too long (hence my blog name).

4) In 1958, Cliff became a star in England. He was so influential that young John Lennon said he dreamed someday the Beatles would be as big as Cliff Richard. Yet for some reason, he was never as popular here in the US. Before today, had you ever heard of Cliff Richard?

(sorry)

5) 1980 was Cliff's most successful year stateside. Both "A Little in Love" and his duet with Olivia Newton-John, "Suddenly," made the Top 10. Do you have a favorite Olivia Newton-John song?

Yes, especially since I was a huge fan of Grease and especially her. I've always loved her on "Hopelessly Devoted to You," and I've sung it many times into my hairbrush!!

6) Cliff was once "a little in love" himself. He had a high-profile romance with British pro tennis player Sue Barker. They contemplated marriage, but in his memoir Cliff admitted he wasn't ready to commit the rest of his life to her. Cliff never married but Sue went on to wed landscape gardener Lance Tankard. Have you ever employed a gardener? Or do you handle all the yard work yourself?

That's a sore subject. We hired a landscape/hardscape guy who later admitted he wasn't up to the task we put before him. I've hated almost everything he's done. He violated our contract, and we're considering hiring a lawyer.

7) In 1980, when we were enjoying "A Little in Love" on the radio, Macaulay Culkin was born. He became famous for the Home Alone franchise. Have you seen any Home Alone movies?

I've seen the first one for sure, but I may have seen them all. I'd have to watch again to be sure.

8) 1980 also gave us the Post-It Note. Today they are available in a variety of sizes and colors, but the original 4"x4" canary yellow Post-Its are still the best seller. Would we find Post-Its in your home or office right now?

You most definitely would! Not a ton, and I prefer the small ones, but you would.

9) Random question – You're having a crummy day. Nothing is going right. You run into a casual friend in the grocery store aisle. As you chat, do you think your mood would be obvious? Or could you successfully put on a happy face?

I'm not sure. I famously do not have a poker face; on the other hand, if I don't want this friend to know what's going on, I think I could get away with a casual conversation and a quick exit.

Well, now, looks like I got it done! That's one for the books. Take care, guys. I hope to keep doing S9 as well as bringing new content here regularly. That's the hope.
xoxo

  1. Nice to see you playing again. Chloe moved back, eh? I'm sure that's a change for everyone. Take care.

  2. I like the music from Grease. I enjoyed watching her style of music change with the times.
