saturday 9: rings

Howdy ho, neighbors!

I'm still futzing around with my fonts and things here so I can land on one or two that I like, so please bear with me on that. I'm in deep with my Miami Hurricanes this football season, and they're playing at 3:30 PM (EST). I have just under five hours, so this slow-poke should be good. 😁😅

Today, Crazy Sam has us covering the song "Rings" by the band Cymarron. If you haven't heard of it and want to listen to it (as I am now) and/or join in the fun, head over here to do just that!

Special note to Country Dew: thanks for your genius note about the text-only paste! Woohoo! Also, Chloe appreciated your Stevie Nicks compliment!

Jumping in myself just now:

Saturday 9: Rings (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a young man who is happy to hear his phone ring. How about you? How do you feel when your phone rings? (Excited, annoyed, surprised, etc.)

Somewhere around 10 years ago, I developed telephobia, so when my phone rings or I if have to make a call, I always get extremely anxious.
*

2) He's got James Taylor on the stereo. Are you a James Taylor fan?

I am. Admittedly I don't know much of his music, probably just most of his commercially successful stuff and not that which I keep meaning to go chasing after.
*

3) He tells his girl he's been hanging with his buddies, Tony and Mario, but they're no substitute for her. What friend did you recently spend time with? What did you do?

Well, we didn't get much time with her, but our awesome friend Caitlin, who works at the grocery store where our late son Jack was her coworker, was in there the last time we both did a little shopping. We didn't see her, though, so it was with great surprise when someone yelled "move over" to Rob and reached through the driver's seat to give me this flowers.
I was so moved to tears and was SURE Rob had a hand in that, but he promises he didn't. That's a total Caitlin move, though. Then we hung out at our car for a quick moment before she had to run off to take care of someone else. We love her so much. 💓

4) Tony and Mario were real people. They ran a restaurant frequented by the songwriters. Did you dine out this past week?

I'm pretty sure we didn't, and neither Rob nor I can remember either ordering in or getting-take out. However, Chloe did buy me a big-ol' ice cream cone from Wawa. Does that count?

5) "Rings" is the only hit for the band Cymarron, who hailed from Memphis, a town known for classic southern comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, cornbread and mashed potatoes. What's on the menu at your home this weekend?

At my direction (hehe, but it's true) Rob is going to make the perfect hummus - I mean, it IS. We usually eat it with pita triangles with some colby jack tucked inside, but maybe we'll add some crudite alongside the pita instead of the cheese this time? Oh, and I love it with cucumber slices (and we still have fresh cukes from our garden) and sprouts. My chef brother-in-law turned me on to that.

6)  The boys in Cymarron took their name from their favorite TV show, the Western Cimarron Strip. What TV show are you currently enjoying? Maybe your fellow Sat9ers would like it, too.

Okay, hear me out: If you've never watched an episode of Bob's Burgers, You Are Missing Out. Yes, I know it's a cartoon, but it is so much more than that. From the beginning of the opening credits to the end of the closing credits, this show is completely cackle-worthy.

Not only that, but the music is on point. They manage at least one bananas musical number per episode, but these talented players often eke out two - or even more! So if you're in it for the visual animation, it's great. Witty dialogue? Great! Musical talent? Also great!

(BTW: I had only seen Seasons 1-4 on regular TV when we had that in Boise, which we moved away from in 2020. But now that Chloe has moved back in and brought her Disney+ subscription with her, she's getting us caught up on Bob's on our ROKU TV.)

7) In 1971, when this song was popular, the US Mint introduced the Eisenhower Silver Dollar. Is there any change in your wallet or pocket right now?

I don't think I actually have any in my wallet or purse right now (it's already heavy enough for me) but I have these little cup-bins from IKEA (and many of other sizes) that had all my change in it. I also had this little zippered cloth back where I was temporarily keeping all the Japanese yen and cen until I figure out where I want to keep it.

Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention to myself the other day, and I dumped all the Japanese coins into the American ones. Aughh! But Rob, just now, was kind enough to sort them out for me. Hubby

8) Also in 1971, Mattel introduced Malibu Barbie, the doll with a tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed?

I have not ever, nor will I ever, get in one of those.

9) Random question – If we were to ask your friends, which of these qualities would they say they like best about you: your warmth, your sense of humor, or your intelligence?

Well, so currently I don't have a nearby friend group, and my IRL friends are all thus attached to me mostly via Facebook & Messenger, and also Instagram (so Meta, darn it).

So I asked my 24-year-old daughter Chloe the question, and she surprised me by saying my warmth! I was so shocked! I thought for sure it would be something about me being so hilarious all the time or my great wit, but no, my warmth! I asked, "Really?" And she said, "Yes, Mom, what? You are a kind person." I couldn't believe it. So nice to learn that she thought that about me. I honestly didn't know it.

Gosh, it's almost 3 pm, which means I have to figure out where I'm going to be able to watch my Hurricanes beat the NC State! (Don't worry, me with the recently diagnosed ADHD, I did at least a hundred other things between answering the S9 this week.)

Love to all, have a safe and sane week ahead!

xoxo
