Saturday 9: New Year's Day

Happy New Year, Internet friends! I hope you all enjoyed your time. We had so many plans but came in squeaking just under the window because, as it turns out, I have pneumonia. We did watch the U Miami game vs the Buckeyes football game that night, though. Fiesta Bowl, here we come! (Turns out most, if not all, of this was redundant later in the post. Oopsie! Forgive me, I have sick head.)

Looks like we're chatting about one of my favorite girl bosses today, Taylor A. Swift! I'm a big fan. I liked her before, but my daughter really likes her, so my adoration has grown. If you're playing along with us this week, link your post up here and have a good time visiting!

Saturday 9: New Year's Day (2017)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Welcome to the first Saturday 9 of 2026.

1) In the lyrics, Taylor Swift promises she'll not only be there for the party, but for the clean up afterward. As we say move on from the holiday season, could your home benefit from a thorough cleaning?

Oh, hell yessss, please. Do you know someone?

 2) This song describes a party where guests took Polaroid pictures. Have you ever owned a Polaroid camera? Do you have one now?

We don't have one now, but my Dad had one when I was a kid. All that armpit developing, right? You guys, too?

3) Taylor sings that we should "hold on to memories." What special memory from 2025 memory will you hang onto?

You know, 2025 was hard. That first year after anybody you love dies is hardest, but when it's your son and he has taken his own life, it's just pure devastation. And then DJT was elected, and I'm sorry if you helped get him elected, but you and I are not the same, and he is not a good dude. But we went to Japan, and we started our backyard project (see above), which was my favorite thing spread over many days of 2025, and especially loved when Rob and I would have breakfast on the back patio together.

4) Taylor Swift grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania. Have you taken your tree, or other holiday decorations, down yet? If you didn't decorate at all, let us know that, too.

NOPE! Other than the packages under the tree, everything looks the same as it did on Christmas. We haven't take anything down yet. Hopefully soon...

5) Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement but no wedding date has been shared. Do you anticipate attending any weddings in 2026?

There are none on the radar thus far.

6) Travis' team, the Kansas City Chiefs, is currently 6-10. Not exactly the record their fans hoped for. According to a 2024 Pew research study, 53% of Americans said football is their favorite sport. Have you watched much football this season?

OH yes! I'm really thrilled with how my alma mater is doing! I'm sure everyone from (University of Miami) Hurricane Nation is happy, as well. We just won the quarterfinal against Ohio State on NYE, and next up will be the semifinal on Wednesday, I think, against Ole Miss. I'm loving our team this year, although our quarterback drives me insane.

My husband grew up in Missouri and is a huge Kansas City fan, and we've been catching those games, too. I wish they'd gone better than they have this year, but I know there have been major injuries and other related things. Hopefully next year's better.

7) In 2017, when "New Year's Day" was released, Wonder Woman was a hit at the box office. While Wonder Woman's superhero abilities vary depending on which TV show, movie or comic book you refer to, some of her powers remain consistent: a) immense strength, b) superhuman speed, c) the ability to almost instantly recover/heal from injury. Which would you like to possess – a, b, or c?

Well, if flying isn't a choice, I'd love to have much more strength than I do!

8) Have you made any New Year's resolutions for 2026?

I want to work with my Cricut more, I want to knit a LOT more, and I want to read more. That isn't all, but it'll getcha started.

9) What was the first thing to make you laugh in 2026?

Well, it's been a rough start, but when Paco greeted me after I was discharged from the hospital yesterday, he was just so exuberant in his affection and greetings that I know I got a few laughs then. I'm going to see if I can get a portion of the video I made uploaded here.

That's the show! Thanks for stopping by and (hopefully) dropping a comment, which I will do too, after eat my eggs.  xoxo, Melanie
