Saturday 9: I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover

Howdy, y'all. It's almost 1:30 PM on Saturday (East Coast), and I am feeling lousy, hence my late start into this week's fun. But I was determined not to miss out.

This week, we're talking about this song by Willie Nelson (love him!), from his Rainbow Connection album. Want to make your mark and play this week. Just make sure you link up here!

Saturday 9: I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover, 2001

Selected in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) This is one of the songs included in Willie Nelson's Rainbow Connection album. He named it after his daughter Amy's favorite song when she was a little girl. She'd been asking him to record "The Rainbow Connection" for 20 years and finally, in 2001, he came through for her. Think of something you had to wait for. Was it worth the wait?

I waited for years and years to graduate high school and get out of That House and move off to college. And yes, it was completely worth the wait.

2) Willie can trace his family tree back to the Revolutionary War. Are you interested in genealogy?

As the kids might say, I'm low-key interested. I did my Ancestry DNA and found out I'm part- a lot of things I never knew before, like a big hunk of me is Irish! And a bit French, and some Swedish, and other fun things! I'm still a mutt, but the net has expanded. I even some Afro-American roots on my father's side which is sooo ironic. But since it costs money and the extra expenditure of energy that I don't often have, I figure it'll keep.

3) Today Willie is legendary performer, but as a child, he was very uncomfortable in front of crowds. He recalled that during his school days, reciting in front of his class made him so uncomfortable he suffered nose bleeds. When did you most recently have a bloody nose?

Probably in the last couple of months. I was massively ill from the end of 2025 up until I finished my 2-week course of antibiotics in the last week or so. I probably had a nosebleed daily for week or so, but I'm sure it was just dried-out nosy.

4) During the 1990s, Willie had problems with the IRS. His management team set up illegal tax shelters and he ended up owing millions in back taxes and penalties. This year's IRS filing deadline is Wednesday, April 15. Will you be early, on time, or will you need an extension?

Definitely not early at least. Not sure yet about the other two!

5) In "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover," Willie sings about appreciating something he has previously overlooked. Is there anything positive in your life you feel you may take for granted?

The privilege of driving. I miss it and definitely took it for granted,

6) Four leaf clovers and shamrocks are considered good luck. Do you have a lucky charm?

I don't believe so. But here are the two four-leaf clovers that my kiddo Nico found when we were at the park the other day - easily. He has a shamrock detection system onboard, I swear.

7) "The wearing o' the green" is one way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Will you wear something green in honor of the day?

You know, I just might! I just bought thousands of dollars' worth of nice clothes for less than a hundred bucks on ThredUp (I love that site) and there are some green things in there I haven't worn yet. So yeah, I'll make a point of it! 😉

8) According to Irish folklore, if you catch a leprechaun he must either give you his pot o' gold or grant you three wishes. Would you choose the gold or the wishes?

I would certainly ask for the wishes. Gold could be spent and run out far too easily, I've learnt.

9) Traditional Irish stew is made with mutton or lamb, though here in the US beef is also very popular. What's your favorite soup/stew?

Historically, it's been the Slow-Cooker Tuscan White Bean and Lentil Soup I've had pinned on my Pinterest, but the posted recipe was removed from MyRecipes. We never printed the recipe (ehh, we probably did, but that was two moves ago) and can't find the exact one so far. Well, I guess my chef (Hubs) is a man on a mission now. In the meantime, I'll settle for a small mug of tomato soup.

Okay, i realize it's after 5 PM, but I got distracted and did a host of other things between starting and finishing this post. I really don't feel well, either, and that's slowing me down. I'm going to try to take it easy right now and visit all of you, friends.

  1. Don't you love Thred Up? I don't know that I need any spring/summer clothes, but if I discover I do, that's the first place I'll look. I love going to the mailbox and seeing a box with the big teal circles.

  3. I used to be able to find 4-leaf clovers all the time, but I seem to have lost that particular ability.
